Notes
1. By definition, diaspora is always transnational. So, transnational diaspora is tautological expression.
2. West Germans calculated in 1956 that the country’s 1939 population had been 69,310,000 million people. During the war, 11,320,000 million people were killed (16% of the 1939 population). However, babies were born during the war and there also was net immigration to Germany. The Germans calculated that the population in the fall of 1946 was 4 million less than before the war, meaning a decline of almost 6% less (Wirtschaft und Statistik, October Citation1956. Wiesbaden: Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland).
