Sue Saltmarshis at the School of Education, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. Although a lecturer at Macquarie University, she is currently a researcher on the Enabling Pedagogies project at the University of Western Sydney. Her research interests include poststructuralist theories of consumption with relation to educational markets, and the complicity of institutions in the production of social violence. She has recently completed her doctoral research in the Division of Critical and Cultural Studies, Macquarie University, exploring the function of representation and market ideologies in the production of school violence. Deborah Youdell is a lecturer in Sociology of Education in the School of Education Foundation and Policy Studies, Institute of Education, University of London, UK. Her current research is concerned with the intersections of students' social and learner identities and the insights these offer for understanding educational inequalities. Her publications include Rationing Education: Policy, Practice, Reform and Equity (2000) (with David Gillborn).
