Purpose‐driven leadership: defining, defending and sustaining a school’s purpose

Pages 437-443 | Published online: 17 Sep 2007

Abstract

Purpose‐driven leadership is a constructive leadership model that challenges an organization to: define its purpose, maintain integrity, encourage character, prevent burnout and sustain vitality. The model incorporates ‘best practice language’ and the tools needed to foster a meaningful discourse. As school leaders strive to define, defend, and sustain the school’s purpose, the purpose‐driven leadership model not only builds leadership capacity, but also serves as a catalyst for positive school reform.
