ABSTRACT
The success of transformational leadership is possible if the followers/subordinates feel the heat of individualized consideration by leader, the environment of inspired motivation and intellectual stimulation. The value of individualized consideration by the follower inspires him/her to accept leader as a role model (idealized influence). However, this relationship is strengthened by efforts of inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation by the leader. The current paper presents field testing through cross-sectional approach to examine the relationships between predictor (individualized consideration) and criterion variable, idealized influence (Role Model), mediated by inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation. The results showed that the predictor (individualized consideration), mediator 1 (inspirational motivation) and mediator 2 (intellectual stimulation) are significantly associated with the dependent variable of idealized influence (R-values= .560, .737, & .815), respectively. The mediation statistics is also significantly upholding the assumptions of mediation. The inspirational motivation reduces Beta of ‘c’ from .602 to 0.223 of ‘ĉ’, while intellectual stimulation decreases Beta of ‘c’ from .602 to 0.160 of ‘ĉ’, thereby showing greater role of intellectual stimulation than inspirational motivation. The findings are guidelines for human resource management stakeholders to understand and accept the role of the mediators (inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation) in having successful transformational leadership in their organizations.
