Abstract

The 19th World Congress of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW).

Acknowledgements

I would like to thank Mary Holdstock for her generosity in providing me with a grant enabling me to travel to Basel and report on the proceedings of the 19th IPPNW World Congress. I dedicate this piece to Mary and to her husband, the late Dr. Douglas Holdstock, both regular attendees of previous IPPNW congresses. I also dedicate this piece to all those who work for the abolition of nuclear weapons, aspiring to forge a more secure future for humanity and to those living under the yoke of neoliberal economic policies, struggling daily to break the chains that bind them in order to create a fairer world and to build a more egalitarian society.
