Developments in Development Planning in English Primary Schools: 1994-2001

Changes in school development planning (SDP) are described over a period of seven years focusing on a series of related projects. SDP is now established as a means of managing change and bringing about improvement. The article describes changes in: the influence of central government initiatives on SDP; the inclusion of a wider range of individuals in the process and the consequent shared or collaborative nature of development planning; schools' needs to focus on teaching and learning; and the desire to retain opportunities for inclusion of individual school needs in SDP.
