Abstract
The profile of the school's population is outlined, as are the school's strong pastoral responses to behavioural need. A wide range of evidence, including a survey of students, is discussed to demonstrate both the need for further responses and the form that they should take; factors militating against proper provision are discussed, including the City of Birmingham LEA's interpretations of the SEN Code which are shown to have significant funding implications. The school's proposals are explained; these include the introduction of an on‐site behaviour support unit, an individual counselling service, and Classroom Assistants.
