Abstract
Effect of rare earth Sm on the microstructure and properties of Mg-9Al alloy was investigated. The results indicate that the microstructure of Mg-9Al alloy is refined by the addition of rare earth Sm. The tensile strength, elongation and corrosion resistance of Mg-9Al alloy are increased with increasing Sm. When the content of Sm is 1.0%, the tensile strength and elongation of Mg-9Al alloy are improved from 117.4 MPa and 4.0% to 136.84 MPa and 7.47%, respectively. And the corrosion resistance of Mg-9Al alloy is improved by 26.6% when adding 1.0% Sm. However, the properties of Mg-9Al alloy are decreased with the further addition of Sm.
