Book Review

Geocomputation: a practical primer, by Chris Brunsdon and Alex Singleton, London, SAGE Publications, 2015, 392 pp., US$52.00, ISBN 9781446272930 (paperback), ISBN 9781446272923 (hardcover)

Notes

1. This presents an exciting future of Geocomputation research, though in a significantly less accessible (in terms of software and examples) way than the previous chapter.

2. This final chapter on location-allocation models alludes to proprietary software available for conducting location-allocation modeling; however, this may present significant ‘startup costs’ to newcomers to the literature.

3. While highly accessible, this chapter is perhaps a bit simplistic given the stated target audience.

4. This chapter by Brunsdon and Singleton on reproducible research (Chapter 15) is a strong contribution to reproducible research in general, and will likely become required reading in all of my future ‘Geocomputation’ courses!

6. For instance, only 7 of the 18 contributed chapters have corresponding sample materials on the text’s web page, with some others having in-text ‘snippets’.
