1. A Polish book has been published about her, The Mother of the Holocaust-Children: Irena Sendler and the Saved Children of the Warsaw Ghetto by Anna Mieszkowska (2004, MUZA SA, Warsaw). This has been translated into German by Urszula Usukowska-Wolff (2006, DVA, München) and it is hoped that an English version will follow soon. The book gives a full description of the personal, political, historical and circumstantial conditions that led to this most singular action of saving 2,500 children from almost certain death.
