ABSTRACT
Facebook is a common tool that enables students to publicly express their emotions, thoughts, experiences, and knowledge. On the assumption that the personal narratives of students can provide deep insights into their learning processes during practical training programs, the article presents content analyses of Facebook posts written by Israeli students who participated in an international social work field placement program in India. Content analysis of the students’ posts reveals that they grappled with their personal and professional identities as part of the learning process that occurred while they were formulating their professional identity as social workers. The analysis elicited three main themes: (1) awareness of the national identity; (2) exploration of other identities (personal, professional, and global); and (3) an attempt to contain multidimensional identity. The students discussed the main challenges they faced in the process of formulating an identity that will enable them to engage in international social work, and they described the fluctuations that occurred in those identities. The results show how public Facebook posts can be used as a tool to shed light on the contribution of social work education in international field placements, and provide insights into the learning processes that students experience in field placements abroad.

פיסבוק הוא אמצעי תקשורת שכיח, שבאמצעותו מבטאים סטודנטים את רגשותיהם, מחשבותיהם והתנסויותיהם בפני קהל רחב. בהתאם, הנחת המחקר הייתה כי תכתובת של סטודנטים בפייסבוק תאפשרנה תובנה מעמיקה באשר לתהליך הלמידה אותו עוברים סטודנטים לעבודה סוציאלית במהלך הכשרה בשדה הנעשית בארץ אחרת. בהתאם לברוח זו, המאמר הנוכחי ניסה ללמד על תהליך הלמידה של סטודנטים המשתתפים בהכשרה בשדה בארץ אחרת, במקרה הנידון בהודו, באמצעות ניתוח תוכן של כתבות בפייסבוק שנכתבו במהלך שהותם בהודו. ממצאי ניתוח הכתבות מראים כי תהליך הלמידה מתאפיין בחיפוש אחר זהות אישית ומקצועית. תהליך זה כולל שלושה מצבים: 1 - מודעות לזהות לאומית 2 - גילוי ואיתור זהויות אישיות נוספות – זהות אישית, זהות מקצועית וזהות גלובאלית ו 3 - ניסיון לפיתוח עמדה רב זהותית. בתהליך ההכשרה בארץ אחרת קיים לא רק חיפוש אחר זהות אלא גם נעות בין הזהויות השונות וזאת על מנת להתחבר וליישם עבודה סוציאלית בינלאומית. התוצאות מראות כי תכתובות פומבית, כמו בפיסבוק, יכולות לשמש כלי נוסף וכאמצעי השופך אור על תרומת החינוך וההכשרה לעבודה סוציאלית ועל מהות תהליך הלמידה. כלי זה זמין במיוחד במהלך הכשרה בשדה בארץ אחרת, כאשר הסטודנטים ממשיכים את קשריהם עם עמיתים ואחרים באמצעות תכתובות פומביות בהם הם משתמשים על דרך השגרה

Rebecca Ranz is a Lecturer at Sapir College. For the last four years she has been the ISW coordinator of the school of social work at Sapir College. She has taught a variety of courses, including Human Rights Discourse & International Social Work, Training Seminar: International Social Work—Overseas and Encountering the other. For five years she was in charge of relations between the School of Social Work at Sapir College and the Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work, Nagpur, India and led the professional training of the Israeli students during their field placement in India.
Orit Nuttman-Shwartz, Ph.D, MSW, GA, Associate Professor. Founder and first Head of the School of Social Work at Sapir College in Israel. One of her research focuses is social work education including international social work. She was involved in several international granted projects to develop curricula on social work in the context of political conflict; on international social work and on transnational children and youth welfare. On 2011 Nuttman-Shwartz was named as the Chairperson of the Israel National Social Work Council. On 2014 and on 2016 she was awarded for a Social worker and an academic scholar for her distinction and groundbreaking work with needy communities.
