‘Listening and observing: a visit to South Africa for our charity Siya Phula Phula’, Infant Observation, Vol. 15, No. 1, April 2012, 94–101. Doi: 10.1080/13698036.2012.654662
Dr Louise Emanuel would like to acknowledge several omissions in her account of a visit to South Africa in Volume 15.1 of this journal. She hopes that what is now included in the list below will give a clearer picture of the infrastructure of dedicated clinicians in the Johannesburg Institute for Psychodynamic Child Psychotherapy (IPCP) who run the projects, and plan and coordinate the visits of the Siya Phula Phula-funded visiting clinicians from London.
The projects on which Louise's account is based are as follows:
Lefika La Phodiso Community Art Counselling Course directed by Hayley Berman, PhD.
The Harriet Shezi Children's Clinic Psychosocial Programme, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, run by Marnie Vujovic, PhD.
In addition to the community projects, the IPCP runs several training courses for a range of mental health, social care and education practitioners, including theory and observational seminars. The visiting Siya Phula Phula clinicians from London also provide academic support to these courses, which are modelled on those run by the Tavistock Clinic, London.
