Two outstanding members of the Editorial Board of Philosophical Explorations stepped down last January. Beate Rössler joined the Board in 2000. She was involved in all of the significant changes the journal went through over the years and her critical acuity and her expertise in political and social philosophy has been invaluable for us. She edited the special issue ‘Autonomy. Problems and Limits’ in 2005. As of 1 January 2009 Beate became a member of the Editorial Committee of the European Journal of Philosophy.

Cynthia Macdonald had already been a member of the advisory board since 1998 when she became an associate editor in 2006. Her enormous expertise and critical attitude in metaphysics and the philosophy of mind have been a safe beacon for our editorial decisions from the very beginning. She edited the recent special issue ‘Rethinking Folk-psychology: Alternatives to Theories of Mind’ (2008), together with Marc Slors. As of 1 January 2009 Cynthia became a member of the advisory board once again.

The journal owes a lot to these two associate editors. Running a journal is as much an intellectual affair as it is an organizational enterprise. It requires many talents to do it well. Beate and Cynthia gave generously of their time and talents during these years. We are immensely grateful for this. We will miss them in the Board, as colleagues and as friends.

Philosophical Explorations has from the very beginning focused on the philosophy of mind and action, with an emphasis on the interrelation between cognition and agency. As editor I am therefore extremely happy to welcome three new associate editors to the Editorial Board, each of them with a strong reputation in the field of mind and action: Naomi Eilan (University of Warwick), Jeanette Kennett (Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics), and Marya Schechtman (University of Illinois at Chicago). We look forward very much to working with them on the exciting project called Philosophical Explorations.
