Abstract

BLOOM: Healthy Spaces Exhibition is a traveling exhibition which assesses how the design of the built environment positively or negatively impacts health. Design firms and government departments around Australia were asked to submit projects which depicted healthy and unhealthy outdoor spaces. Twenty six of these case studies were selected for the exhibition and organised within the themes of Play, Heal, Learn, Work, Live and Travel. Projects were selected to demonstrate a wide variety of spaces, a broad spectrum of users, and to represent work within different types of communities (urban, regional and rural). Curated by Gweneth Leigh in partnership with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, BLOOM was exhibited at the Gallery of Australian Design between May-June 2012 and at the University of Canberra in December 2012 in conjunction with the 6th Australasian Occupational Science Symposium, Occupation for Population Health.
