Commentary on: Asbjørnslett, A. & Bekken, W. Openness to difference: Inclusion in sports occupations for children with (dis)abilities

Pages 446-448 | Published online: 24 Jul 2016

ABSTRACT

My commentary begins with consideration of the methodology used, discussing this in relation to two key facets of the study findings. I compare Asbjørnslett and Bekken’s findings to those of my own study, which revealed the presence of particular skills used by community members that enable one another to participate. I situate the theme of people’s inclusive actions to current understandings about the notion of altruism. I conclude with reference to Dr Peter Rosenbaum’s reflections on future research directions for learning more about ways to improve people’s attitudes to those with disabilities.
