Bridging theory and practice in OT education at the university of applied sciences for health professions upper Austria

Pages 49-50 | Published online: 10 Mar 2016

ABSTRACT

Bridging theory and practice in the OT bachelor programme at the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions Upper Austria is achieved through a well-managed balance between academia and practitioners in the classroom and placements supervised and assessed by experienced practitioners and academic staff. Theoretical contents combined with practical methods and materials, and theory-based planning, documentation and evaluation of practically carried out therapy processes help students to bridge the gap between occupational therapy theory and practice. Structured students’ assessments and supervised placement evaluation and reflection make students’ progress in their professional development visible. Continuing and process-driven exchange between students, placement supervisors and lecturers ensures a high level of quality in the occupational therapy education.
