Abstract

Speed is a key parameter in the process of hollow aluminium profile extrusion using porthole die. In this article, two kinds of speed models, constant speed and uniform deceleration speed, were applied for three different mean speed values in a square hollow aluminium profile extrusion. Processes with the different mean speeds and different models were simulated and investigated. Effects of speed value and model on material temperature and extrusion load were discussed in detail. It is concluded that uniform deceleration speed can efficiently restrain overheating phenomenon of the material, improve temperature uniformity, decrease ram load and prolong lifetime of the die without sacrificing production efficiency.
