Machining characteristics of metal matrix composite in powder-mixed electrical discharge machining – A review

ABSTRACT

Electrical discharge machining is a versatile machining technology that uses precisely directed sparks within the range of the dielectric fluid and between the electrodes to make electrically conductive products. The influence of different processing parameters on diverse metal matrix composites, including new reinforcing elements (silicon carbides, aluminium oxides and nitrides), and the modifications that occur as a consequence of each of these components are discussed in this article. As a result, new reinforcing materials and ways for optimising performance have emerged. The goal of this study is to provide analysts with research data that will allow them to effectively use EDM principles and, more particularly, to investigate process characteristics in order to enhance the process of advanced PMEDM operation.

Surendra Singh Thakur has obtained a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology , Surat and Master of Technology from Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, Bhopal. He has completed a PhD in Mechanical Engineering From MATS University, Raipur.His area of interest in advanced manufacturing process, Non conventional machining, Multi response optimization and design engineering. He has 10 publications in international journal and more than 30 presentations at national and international conferences to his credit.

Brijesh Patel obtained his PhD from MATS University, Raipur. Hybrid Material ,Turbo machinery, Composite material, unmanned aerial vehicle in his field of research. He worked as an professor in the aeronautical engineering department, MATS University, Raipur. He has several publication in national and International journal to his credit.

Rajeev Kumar Upadhyay

Rajeev Kumar Upadhyay is Director of Hindustan College of Science & Technology, Farah (Mathura) and has been Professor of Mechanical Engg. at Anand Engg. College, Agra. He has authored three books of Mech. Engg. and published 40 research papers. He has been conferred with awards such as “Outstanding Engineering Services to Society Awards “by Institution of Engineers (India),Rajasthan.He has member of several National and International bodies , Society of india (SSI)
