Enhancement of self-lift SEPIC converter performance based on different inductor types

Pages 224-227 | Received 13 Feb 2020, Accepted 24 Jul 2020, Published online: 08 Sep 2020

ABSTRACT

The present paper presents a deep study on the effects of inductor parameters, such as core material, mechanical construction, DC resistance, quality factor and series resistance on the design, implementation and operation of self-lift SEPIC converters. The proposed DC-DC 5/22 volts converter has been designed to operate in the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), as a result of which the switch node ringing appeared. It was noticed that the ringing parameters varied depending on the inductor type, where VP-P values were 6, 8.4, 8.8 and 9.2 volts for four different inductors. So, it is clear from the obtained results that, the output voltage (VO) value ranged from 17.3 up to 21.5 volts duo to using toroid choke inductor with DC resistance 148 mΩ and bobbin inductor with DC resistance 91 mΩ, respectively. On the other hand, the snubber circuit had been used to reduce the switch node ringing dependent on the ringing frequency.
