Responsive organizational dynamism: managing technology using reflective practice

Pages 247-254 | Published online: 20 Aug 2006

Abstract

This paper provides a theoretical approach to how organizations should consider reflecting and responding to challenges posed by new technologies. Technology is a ‘dynamic variable’ affecting organizations in specific ways. It is unpredictable and capable of accelerating change, dynamically affecting organizational development. This paper introduces responsive organizational dynamism (ROD) as a reflective practice in organizational behavior to respond to the demands of technology. It includes two core components: strategic integration addresses the way in which organizations determine how to use technology as part of business strategy; and cultural assimilation seeks to answer how the organization will accommodate, both structurally and culturally, the human resources of IT within the process of implementing new technologies.
