The Imaginary Voyage: an online opera

Abstract

This short feature describes a project to create an online opera which deploys a new web technology, the Syzygy Surfer, developed in the Institute of Creative Technologies (IOCT) at De Montfort University. The project is a collaboration between the IOCT and The Opera Group.

Notes

1 The ‘‘Peirce quincuncial projection’’ is a form of map that presents a sphere as a square. It is often used as a way of representing Earth in two dimensions.

Andrew Hugill is Director of Creative Computing at Bath Spa University. He is a composer and transdisciplinary researcher. He is the author of Pataphysics: A Useless Guide (MIT Press, 2012) and The Digital Musician (Routledge, 2008). He is the former Director of the Institute of Creative Technologies at De Montfort University.

Lee Scott is a UK-based digital artist specialising in the creation of musical experiences for hypermedia. He is a doctoral candidate at Bath Spa University researching digital forms of opera.
