Prediction of operators cognitive degradation and impairment using hybrid fuzzy modelling

Abstract

Prediction of cognitive dysfunctions in operators of human–machine systems is a complex process. The cognitive functions of attention and memory are negatively impacted in machine operation workers. Obtaining an accurate prediction of cognitive dysfunctions provides added value to better design machines and improve operator health. This research demonstrates a prediction model utilising hybrid fuzzy decision rules. The models use health indicators that measure energy imbalance of biologically active points, levels of psycho-emotional stress, fatigue and functional reserve (FR). We assess properties of attention as concentration, volume, selectivity, switchability, distribution and stability in operators of information-rich human–machine systems. Expert confidence in the obtained mathematical models exceeds the value of 0.85. The prediction quality was tested on representative control samples for the most vulnerable property of concentration of attention (CA) for this profession, and it was shown that such indicators of decision-making quality as diagnostic sensitivity, diagnostic specificity, diagnostic efficiency, predictive significance of positive and negative results exceed 0.85. The developed model proved useful for various applications in modern psychology, and psychophysiology assessment.

Nikolay Alekseevich Korenevskiy

Nikolay Korenevskiy is the Head of the Department of Biomedica Engineering, South West State University, Russia in 003). He received awards such as medal for success in Development of National Economy in 1978; silver medal for success in Development of National Economy in 1985; medal for merits in the field of ecology in 2001; and Branch Award of Education Department of Russian Federation Honourable Worker of higher professional education of Russian Federation in 2007. His research interests include biomedical engineering, biophysics, acupuncture, fuzzy logic decision-making, medical and ecology information systems.

Riad Taha Al-kasasbeh

Riad Taha Al-Kasasbeh received his MS in Engineering Science and PhD in Controlling of Biological and Electronic Equipments. He is currently a Professor at Al-Balqa Applied University. He is a member of professional organisations, an auditor for quality of research and education and co-author of over 88 papers (editions: Springer, IEEE, France Taylor, IASTED, Inderscience, Elsevier, etc.). He is also a Visiting Professor along with other universities like Philadelphia University and Konstanz University (HTWG), Karaganda State Industrial University. He was a Research Fellow of DFG at the HTWG. His research interests include biomedical engineering, biophysics, acupuncture, fuzzy logic decision-making, medical and ecology information systems. He presented his work at numerous international conferences as keynote speaker also he is currently member of the editorial boards of several journals.

Fawaz Shawawreh

Fawaz Khalid Al-Shawawreh has a Doctor of Philosophy in Finance (PhD) / Exeter University / UK2008. Title of the PhD Thesis: “Measuring and Testing Lon-run Performance of UK Initial Public offerings (IPO) from 1975-2004”. He was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (DMS), Plymouth University, UK 2001 and Master’s Degree in Finance and Marketing (MSc), Exeter University, UK.2003 and. He is a Visiting researcher at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany, during the period from 13th of June till the 5th of September 2011 supported by German Research Foundation (DFG). He has a publication in Journal of Business, finance and Accounting under the title of “UK IPOs: Long Run Returns, Behavioral Timing and Pseudo Timing” His research area cover mainly in the topics like Corporate Finance, Finance and Investments, Behavioral Finance, Financial Markets, Financial Economics, and man-machine system and artificial financial intelligence. His current position is an associate professor of finance and investments at the Finance and Banking department at Mutah University /Jordan.

Tareq Ahram

Tareq Ahram received the Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering from the University of Central Florida, in 2008, with specialization in human systems integration and large-scale information retrieval systems optimization (database optimization algorithms). He has served as an invited speaker and a scientific member for several systems engineering, emerging technologies, neurodesign, and human factors research, and an Invited Speaker and a Program Committee Member for the Department of Defense Human Systems Integration and the Human Factors Engineering Technical Advisory Group. He is currently the Lead Scientist and an Assistant Research Professor working at the Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering (IASE), University of Central Florida.

Sofya Nikolaevna Rodionova

Sofia Nikolaevna Rodionova received the Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering. from the South West University, Biomedical Engineering in Kursk, Russia, She has co-authored more than 20 scientific articles. Her scientific interests are in the field of biophysics, computer modelling of biological molecules and materials science, signal processing, and acupuncture.

Mahdi Salman Alshamasin

Mahdi Salman Alshamasin holds MS and PhD in Engineering/Automatic Control. He was a Research Fellow of DFG Foundation at (HTWG). Currently he works as a Professor at the Department of Mechatronics Engineering of Al-Balqa Applied University. He is the author of more than 40 scientific papers in scientific journals of applied sciences and technology and supervisor of many master’s theses. His research interests cover speed control and performance optimisation of single-phase and three-phase motors, modelling and simulation of robotic systems, electric drive systems, signal processing, automatic control and biomedical design instrumentation.

Sergey Aleexevich Filist

Sergey Filist is a doctor of technical Sciences, Professor, born in 1951. In 2003 he defended his doctoral thesis on “Problem-oriented software and hardware systems for monitoring in socio-technical systems on dynamic reference areas”. Currently he works as a Professor at the Department of biomedical engineering of Southwest state University, is the author of more than 300 scientific papers. Research interests: automated systems for ecology, biology and medicine; bioimpedance research; methods and systems of artificial intelligence to support decision-making; mathematical methods for data mining and pattern recognition.

Manafaddin Namazov

Namazov Manafaddin was born on 28 February 1963 in Balchili, Hanlar (now Goygol) region of Republic of Azerbaijan. He has finished secondary school with excellent marks in 1980 and admitted to Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University LETI(ETU) (The Faculty of Computing Technologies and Informatics, Department in Automation and Remote Control, Russian Federation) in. He graduated Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University LETI (ETU) in 1986. Electrical Engineer. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS) in 1993. Currently he is the chair of Process Automation and Electrical Engineering Department and Vice Rector at Baku Engineering University. His current research interests include development of efficient algorithms for DSP, Fuzzy Control, Automatic Control and Control engineering.

Ashraf Adel Shaqadan has PHD in civil and Environmental Engineering from Utah State University (2008). He has experience in implementing artificial intelligence models in environmental and engineering applications. He has several authored several publications in developing prediction models in concrete mix design and water quality.

Ilyash Maksim Jurievich obtained his PhD in Chemistry in the Institute of Information Technology, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO University) in St. Petersburg, Russia, as well as the project manager in research and development projects that performs scientific research for the Industry and Trade Ministry of Russian Federation. He has co-authored more than 20 scientific articles. His scientific interests are in the field of biophysics, computer modelling of biological molecules, and materials science.
