Abstract

Professionalism in Dance Education is a complex construction. It can be imposed from the outside (degree completed, job status, salary) or can be identified from the professional herself. Seven graduate dance education students were interviewed with specific focus on the transition from student to professional and the feelings surrounding this transition. They had just completed conducting professional development workshops for other dance educators. The results were analyzed to answer the question: How do these educators know they have become professionals?
