The papers that comprise this Special Issue were all presented at the Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers Annual Conference in London in September 2007 in a series of paper sessions on ‘Masculinity, Intersectionality and Place: Dominant Discourses and Practices’ which was organised by Peter Hopkins and Greg Noble. We are very grateful to all those who participated in this session, including Robert Vanderbeck, Jane Kenway and Katie Willis who acted as discussants for each of the three sets of papers.
