Continents of cultural studies – unite in diversity! Comparing Asian and European experiences

Pages 214-220 | Published online: 21 May 2010

Notes

1. The term ‘glocal’ derives from Robertson (Citation1995). For further discussion of glocal cultural studies, see Fornäs (Citation2007) and Abbas and Erni (Citation2005).

2. The Nordic countries of Northern Europe and the North Atlantic include the three Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, plus Finland and Iceland, plus their associated but partly autonomous territories, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland. Their 3.5 million square kilometres carry a total population of only 25.4 million inhabitants, but the region is among the richest and most ‘modernised’ in the world, in terms of national product, social welfare, education, human rights, individualisation etc.

3. Culture Unbound: Journal of Current Cultural Research is a refereed academic journal published open‐access by Linköping University Electronic Press (www.cultureunbound.ep.liu.se).

4. See for instance Horak (Citation2002), Chalard‐Fillaudeau (Citation2009) or Cornut‐Gentille D’arcy (Citation2009) on cultural studies in Germany, France and Spain, respectively, and Moore (Citation2006[2001]) for a more general overview.

5. For an example, see Moore (Citation2006[2001]: 302).

6. Not least including Chen (Citation1998). For Asia‐Europe relations, see also Ang (Citation2001).

7. On ‘mode‐2’ universities, see Nowotny et al. (Citation2001).
