Complex emergencies continue to pose a significant challenge to the international community. Geographic information systems (GIS) offer those involved in planning for and responding to complex emergencies an analytically powerful information management tool for georeferenced data. The article discusses GIS‐based programmes in Kosovo, as well as potential applications for response coordination, rapid provision of basic needs and public security, political dialogue, human rights, and sustained economic development.
