ABSTRACT
Background
No studies have investigated of the relationship between high school students’ attitudes towards addictive substances and their social exclusion status.
Objectives
This study aimed to identify the relationship between the social exclusion status of high school students and their attitudes on addictive substances.
Methods
A total of 385 students from 5 high schools in Elazığ, Turkey formed the sample group of the study.
Results
Results from the regression analysis performed as part of this study showed that there was a positive relationship between the feelings of exclusion and neglect that the students experienced and their social exclusion.

Study limitations
The findings from this study should be considered in light of the following study limitations. First, as the study sample consisted of adolescents who were enrolled in a regular academic year of high school, the results cannot be generalized to the entire population. Second, the research is limited to the qualities measured by the scales used to determine the students’ social exclusion status and their attitudes towards addictive substances.
