Abstract

This year, 1995, comes in the midst of anniversaries. Last year marked the fiftieth anniversary of the Bretton Woods Conference, which laid the foundation of the post-World War II world capitalist economy, creating the World Bank, and the International Montary Fund (IMF). This year marks the founding of the United Nations, and next year, 1996, is the fiftieth anniversary of the World Bank opening its doors for business. The Bank's celebrations began in July 1994, and future events include the publication of an official history by the Brookings Institute and the opening of a Visitors' Center in the Bank's Washington, DC headquarters.
