The Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists (AAPT) has provided a venue for experts around the world in all areas of asphalt paving technology to gather and exchange ideas for over 90 years. AAPT is a leader in the advancement of asphalt paving technology and is a source for the latest developments in the field. AAPT’s Annual Meeting is held every spring and includes asphalt related technical sessions, symposia, and workshops. One of the hallmarks of the Annual Meeting is the extensive oral discussion and intellectual debate after the presentation of each paper, which serves as an extended and open technical review of the work and leads to higher quality publications.

This Special Issue of RMPD includes the technical papers and discussions from the 92nd Annual Meeting held in Newport Beach, California, USA, on 19–22 March 2017. All the papers are subject to a rigorous peer-review process that includes at least four internationally respected members of the asphalt community and one member of the RMPD Board of Editors. Based on these reviews, the AAPT Board of Directors and the Special Issue Guest Editors select the papers to be presented at the Annual Meeting and published in this Special Issue.

The success and quality of the annual meeting and subsequent RMPD Special Issue is a direct result of the authors who have spent time presenting their research results in the technical papers and the reviewers that have dedicated their time in providing valuable feedback. Thank you for your dedication to the advancement of asphalt paving technology around the world.
