Abstract

This paper discusses how sex therapy serves those with issues of sexual desire and satisfaction. We review two core concepts: female-male Sexual Equity and the Good Enough Sex (GES) model and how they can work together to facilitate intimacy and eroticism in couples. The Sexual Equity model employs respect and trust between partners to increase intimacy and help combat a rigid double standard that can be deleterious to a couple’s sexual health. The GES model promotes sexual acceptance and satisfaction by teaching couples that sexual encounters can have a variety of pleasurable outcomes. We explore the roles of these two concepts in promoting a satisfying, secure, and sexual relationship. A couple case study utilizing the concepts illustrates the effectiveness of a psychobiosocial approach of assessment, treatment, and relapse prevention.
