 [4] This somewhat muted and restrictive verbal repudiation of the old course in the original six-page text was meant as an obvious sop to Party conservatives – something like the long-time presence of the Marxist verbiage in the programs of European Social-Democratic parties. The practical recommendations of the paper do not leave any doubt that no ‘building of socialism’ at whichever pace was planned for the united Germany.
