In Memoriam

The editors of Cold War History were shocked and saddened when we recently received news from Moscow that our dear friend and colleague Ilya V. Gaiduk had died. Born in 1961 in Turkmenistan, Ilya studied in Moscow and was at the time of his death senior research fellow at the Institute of World History, Russian Academy of Sciences. He had also been a visiting fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC, and at the Nobel Institute in Oslo.

Ilya Gaiduk was among the leading international historians of his generation. He published three books in English (two on the Vietnam War and one on the relationship between Europe and Islam) and edited a number of books and articles in Russian together with his closest colleagues in Moscow, Academician A.O. Chubarian and Professor N.I. Yegorova. Our thoughts are with them, and with Ilya's family, on this sad occasion.
