Imagined South AfricaFootnote

Pages 83-92 | Published online: 15 Feb 2008

Abstract

This talk attempts to locate the variety and range of explorations of the UNISA Imagined South Africa in the context of the 10th anniversary programme of the celebrations of democracy in South Africa, but seeks to place those in the context of some of the speaker's own experiences in publishing under conditions of Apartheid and the distortions that emanated therefrom. Not only does he refer to the interrogations of some of the key terms that mar(k) current rhetoric, but the talk also concludes with hints at directions for future explorations based upon foundations laid down by writers and publishers in the years of the previous regime.
