This edition of the Journal represents the wide array of fascinating developments in the area of aesthetic medicine. The 1st group of studies are in the area of energy-based devices. The 1st looks at the successful treatment of Schamberg’s disease with a fractional non-ablative 1540 nm erbium: glass laser. This is followed by a study on infrared thermography as control of handheld IPL device for home-use.
The nest series of studies look at botulinum toxins. The 1st study evaluates the use of onabotulinumtoxin A treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines after laser therapy. The next 2 papers in this series look at intralesional botulinum toxin-A injection for the treatment of multiple eccrine hidrocystomas and use of botulinum toxin fin addition to fillers and threads for a non-surgical rhinophyma.
The final papers look at q combined use of microfocused ultrasound and a calcium hydroxylapatite dermal filler for treating atrophic acne scars; evaluation and efficacy of carbon dioxide therapy (carboxytherapy) versus mesolipolysis in the treatment of cellulite; and the protective effects of fermented honeybush extract against skin aging.
