Stephen Ronald Stoer, 1944–2005
It is with great regret and sadness that we have to announce the death, on 31 December last year, of Steve Stoer, who had been a member of the Editorial Board of the journal since its inception. Steve was an outstanding and original scholar who had a major influence on the development of the sociology of education in Portugal and more widely. His early support of the proposal for the journal gave us confidence that it was an idea worth pursuing, and he has made major contributions to its success. His death has deprived the journal and those who support its aims of the great contribution he would undoubtedly have continued to make, and for us personally it means the loss of a very dear and close friend.
