Josephine Balmer's works include Sappho: Poems and Fragments (1984, 1992), Catullus: Poems of Love and Hate (2004), Chasing Catullus (2004) and The Word for Sorrow (2009, 2013). A former chair of the Translators Association, she has been reviews editor of Modern Poetry in Translation, and is currently a judge of the Stephen Spender Prize. She has written widely on poetry and translation for many journals and newspapers. Her practitioner's study of classical translation and versioning, Piecing Together the Fragments, was published in 2013.
