This special issue of Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology contains selected papers from the ‘International Symposium on Coatings and Corrosion (ISCC2016)’ which was held under the auspices of the 10th International Materials Technology Conference and Exhibition (IMTCE2016). This meeting is organized by the Institute of Materials, Malaysia and has grown to become one of the major conferences in its field. In 2016, IMTCE was held between 16th and 19th May 2016 at the prestigious Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The specific theme of the ISCC2016 symposium was on ‘Sustaining Technical Integrity through Improved Coating Industry and Corrosion Protection Technologies’ while the overall conference (IMTCE2016) provided an effective platform to academicians and industrialists to showcase their knowledge and expertise in the area of ‘Design, Research and Inventions’.
The objectives of the symposium were to disseminate not only the research, development and application of the new or greener technologies for paints and protective coatings, but also the understanding of corrosion and corrosion protection techniques. It also provided a platform for the exchange of ideas, collaborations and network opportunities by gathering together a wide range of researchers from academia and industry. ISCC2016 covered research related to smart and nano-coatings, high temperature coatings, bio-coatings, bio-based composites, nano-composite coatings, polymer coatings, etc. This special issue consists of seven research papers contributed by the poster and oral presenters of ISCC2016 covering a wide range of multidisciplinary topics. Finally, we wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all contributors and to the reviewers of these papers.
