Crystallite size and shape relationships in the product-precursor pair MgO-Mg(OH)2

X-ray line broadening has been used to assess the true shape of MgO crystallites prepared by the thermal decomposition of Mg(OH)2. The oxide crystallite size was found to be dependent on the parent hydroxide plate thickness and a lower limit of ∽ 50 Å was observed.
