Anomalous slip in high-purity vanadium crystals

Abstract

Single crystals of high-purity vanadium (ρ3004·2∼1600) have been deformed at 77°K in tension. The results are compared with those on impure vanadium and high-purity niobium of the same orientation. Slip line studies show that this material deforms largely by slip on the anomalous (01) plane. This is only the second material known to deform in this way.
