ABSTRACT

This work presents an independent interconnected hybrid microgrid system that consists of sea wave generator, biodiesel generator, and battery energy storage system in microgrid 1 whereas, organic Rankine cycle based solar thermal power plant, biodiesel generator and superconducting magnetic energy storage in microgrid 2. DC link is used in both the microgrids to maintain faster sharing of power and address transient issues. A comparison of the system with and without DC link is done to establish its superiority. Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controllers are used for load frequency control of the system. The use of an algorithm to optimise the controller parameters is decided by a comparative analysis between Genetic algorithm (GA), Particle swarm optimization (PSO), sine-cosine algorithm (SCA), salp swarm algorithm (SSA) and Grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA) which revealed the superiority of GOA over other algorithms. Different real-time scenarios are considered to study the frequency response of the system.
