Looking Back, Looking Forward: The Past 15 Years of Mathematics Education in CJSMTE

Abstract

In this article, we review the publications served by the Canadian Journal of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education in the past 15 years, specific to the field of mathematics education, and make connections with development of the field. In particular, we adopt current Editor-in-Chief John Wallace's (2009) approach of “looking back, looking forward,” to reflect on the journal's development both qualitatively, by recapping significant moments of the journal and highlighting recurrent themes, and quantitatively, by reviewing the number of contributions in terms of country, language, and genre. In looking forward, we inform a discussion of future directions of the journal.

Résumé

Dans cet article, nous faisons un compte-rendu des articles portant spécifiquement sur l’enseignement des mathématiques publiés au cours des 15 dernières années dans la Revue canadienne de l’enseignement des sciences, des mathématiques et des technologies, et nous faisons des liens entre ces travaux et les développements dans le domaine. En particulier, nous reprenons à notre compte l’approche de l’actuel rédacteur en chef John Wallace (2009), qui consiste à « regarder en arrière, regarder en avant », pour nous pencher sur l’évolution de la Revue sur les plans qualitatif et quantitatif, d’une part en revenant sur les moments significatifs qui ont marqué la Revue et en soulignant les thèmes récurrents actuels, et d’autre part en analysant les articles publiés par pays, par langue et par genre. Nous présentons aussi des éléments de réflexion sur les orientations futures de la Revue.
