Struggle, support and the politics of possibility

Pages 13-22 | Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

Within this paper the nature and importance of a social model of disability will be examined. Particular attention will be given to the voices of disabled people in order that non‐disabled people, including academics, can learn from them in terms of their thoughts, writings and actions (Branfield 1999). Conceptual political and research issues will be raised in the concluding section of the paper and some implications for research will also be highlighted.
