Pages 73-91 | Published online: 10 Jun 2015

Abstract

Social and emotional skills deficits are among the most salient problems for children with attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD). The article gives an overview of the most common social problems related to AD/HD and the need for treatments with permanent effects. Proposed bases of AD/HD related problems are presented with an emphasis on a dynamic developmental theory and the importance of automaticity. Available treatments for AD/HD-related problems and possible causes of limited generalization effects are presented. The main purpose is to review the literature and propose future research topics based on knowledge of the basis of AD/HD.
