An Outreach Journey in Pandemic Times

Pages 71-77 | Published online: 30 Mar 2022

Abstract

This article discusses outreach initiatives that took place during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020–2021 at the Texas A&M University Libraries’ Cushing Memorial Library and Archives, which houses special collections, rare books, and the University Archives. The State of Texas and the Texas A&M main campus reopened earlier than most. The article reflects on how the Cushing Library responded to the circumstances created by the pandemic, including the development of online programs and a blog, while closed to the public. It also examines the combination of online and in-person programming after reopening in August 2020, including a large LGBTQIA+ collaborative exhibition. The article discusses the pressure of remaining highly productive and efficient during unprecedented times.
