Abstract
Looking Lab: SF views the urban landscape of San Francisco following on our observation that gender has displaced sexuality as the battleground for queer life. We present six short essays from drag queens, queer theorists, activists, and psychoanalysts to frame a broader project for Looking and the City.

Stephen Hartman, Ph.D., is co-editor of Studies in Gender and Sexuality and an associate editor for Psychoanalytic Dialogues. He co-chairs the faculty at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California in San Francisco, CA.
Don Romesburg
Don Romesburg, Ph.D., is chair of Women’s and Gender Studies at Sonoma State University. He has published numerous journal articles and book chapters related to queer/trans studies and the history of sexuality in the United States and is the editor of the forthcoming Routledge History of Queer America.
