¹ The TI was founded by Mordecai Kaplan at the direction of Solomon Schechter in 1909; this was soon after Schechter became president of JTS. Its functions eventually were assumed by the William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education on the one hand and the Seminary’s List College, the undergraduate program conducted in tandem with Columbia University and Barnard College, on the other.
