Preface

It is our great pleasure to hold the 6th Korean Toxicology Symposium with the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health (JTEH) in Jeju, Korea. To celebrate this symposium, prestigious toxicologists were invited from various fields and advances in toxicological research and risk assessment issues in Korea will be discussed. There is an increasing need for developing alternative risk assessment strategies using non-animal methodologies implying the need for a fundamental change in safety assessment methodologies are carried out. Today, adverse outcome pathways (AOPs) are evaluated with new methods in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and computational toxicology. Thus, new approaches are being developed and are generating new data that need to be evaluated. Major topics include endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), nanoparticles, metabolism, food toxicants, toxicokinetics, etc. With the support of School of Pharmacy, Sungkyunkwan University, and many other universities, Research Institutes and Companies, this symposium was organized and the papers presented at this conference are culminated in publication in JTEH. Papers presented at this symposium might not be sufficient to cover all the issues of toxicological sciences in Korea, but on a future occasion the intention is to invite more scientists to share recent updates of toxicological research. We hope this symposium will be a good chance to exchange scientific information on recent update of toxicological research. Finally, on behalf of all toxicologists in Korea and participants at this symposium, it is our sincere gratitude to Professor Sam Kacew, Editor-in-Chief of JTEH, who has made continuous efforts to contribute to the promotion of toxicological research in Korea.
