ABSTRACT

The present research aims to investigate the adsorption of a commonly used, quinalphos organophosphate pesticide on to four different agricultural soils of Punjab, India. The results revealed that the highest adsorption of quinalphos was observed on soil D (Loamy Sand). The data obtained after analyzing adsorption isotherms were subjected to classical Linear and Non-Linear (Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin) Isotherms. Linear isotherms were classified as S and L-type according to Giles classification. The experimental data is best suited to the logarithmic form of the Freundlich and Temkin models. In kinetics studies, the regression results showed the best fitting to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The desorption studies of quinalphos were carried out using tap and distilled water as eluents and revealed that the leaching potential of the pesticide was higher in soil C (low organic matter content).
