Abstract
Economics has been described as “The Dismal Science.” But knowledge of economics as applied to the health care industry is increasingly important for hospital librarians. This article summarizes the results of a survey of hospital librarians pertaining to their knowledge, perceptions, and interest regarding health care economics. In response to economics topics selected as important by librarian survey respondents, health care economics issues and concepts are defined and discussed. The article concludes by identifying relevant implications for hospital librarians and resources for continuing education.
