Abstract
As recognition of the burden and causes of limited health literacy has grown, health care leaders are calling for organizations to adopt organization-wide strategies to address this problem. Group Health, a nonprofit, consumer-governed health system serving members in Washington State and North Idaho, has responded to the call to improve health literacy by implementing a “Plain Language” initiative across the organization. This work has resulted in a Plain Language Toolkit, which has improved member and patient-oriented communications.
